The final part of the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) 1995 came into force in October 2004 when reasonable adjustments to physical features to overcome physical barriers to access became the legal responsibility of public service providers. In addition to our range of DDA compliant play equipment, we have introduced two exciting products for integrated access that have been widely used on the continent for many years.
The Tiralo chair not only allows wheelchair users to access the beach – it can also be used to bathe in the sea or a pool with sloping access – and evens allows for excursions through the snow!
The other Beach access product we offer is Mobi-Mat (Currently used by Hastings, Brighton & Bournemouth Councils) which enables wheelchair users to cross difficult terrain such as sand, snow, gravel etc. This product is also available in a variety of ‘strengths’ for use as works access roadways, boat ramps etc
Both these products contribute greatly to making beaches accessible to wheelchair users – with Mobi-Mat also benefiting parents with pushchairs.
